What kind of stats about my web page do you give and what do they mean?
CounterBank.com not only tracks the number of hits that you receive, but it also gives a large array of stats including:
- Pageviews: simply the number of times your web page is accessed.
- Unique hits is the number of times your page is accessed by different, unique people. Thus, it will always be lower than pageviews. We have unique hits broken up into two categories:
- First Time Uniques: this is the first time a user has ever accessed your web page.
- Returning Uniques: this means that a person has come back to your web page after having visited it sometime before.
- Referrers: where the person came from to get to your website. This helps to determine who has linked to you.
- Languages: every computer is set to have everything in at least one language, sometimes more. This is why we have it split up into primary and secondary languages. This will help you know what languages your users speak.
- Countries: we can determine based on the IP address of a user what country they are from. You may be surprised at how diversified your web users are.
- Operating Systems (such as Windows XP or Mac OS)
- Browsers (such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape)
- Colors: the setting on the system for the number of colors (such as 32 bit)
- Java: whether or not Java is enabled on the user's computer.
- Cookies: whether or not cookies are enabled on the user's computer.
- Javascript: whether or not javascript is enabled on the user's computer.
- Resolution: the user's resolution (such as 1024x800).
- Recent Hits: this is a full report on each user that comes to your web page, including all the above stats for each unique hit with a few extras. Compiling these stats in the recent hits database, we can also get some interesting extra data:
- Totals/Averages: This tells you some interesting summaries on the hits your web page gets including things like the average time between unique hits, the average number of pageviews per user, average time spent on your web page, etc.
- Popular Entry Pages: The pages people come into your site at.
- Popular Exit Pages: The pages people leave your site from.

Can I make my counter invisible?
Yes you can! Just login, and under your project's options on the Configure Graphics link, you may choose the style of your counter, or just plain invisible.

How do I make the counter work?
You will need to open a project for your website, and then place the code on every page that you would like to be tracked. If you lose the code, you can always get it again by logging in and clicking on "Get Code"

The counter doesn't seem to work?
Be sure you have the correct counter code on each of your pages with the correct username, project name, and especially your security code. If your security code is enabled and your pages do not have the correct security code in your counter code, then it will not work. Also you may have just blocked only your own hits by filtering out your IP address in your counter options, or you could have put the blocking cookie on your computer.

Can I make it so the counter doesn't count my own hits?
Sure, there are two ways to do this. You can either block your IP address under your project settings, or you may put a "blocking cookie" on your computer, which you can also do after you've logged in with your project settings.

What do I do if I have different web pages?
You can either group them all together and put the same counter code on each page, or else you can separate them with different "projects" which keeps their stats completely separate.

What is a "project"?
You should create a project for each set of web pages for which you would like a different set of stats. For example, if I owned both google.com and yahoo.com, I would create two different projects. Then I would put the Google counter code under each web page under google.com, and the Yahoo counter code under each yahoo.com counter page. That way I have the stats separated for each of my different sets of web pages.
